THERE are no rules how an obituary should be written.

Most obituaries are written as a matter of fact and include information about the death of a person, his or her life accomplishments, the time and place of death, the causes or circumstances of death, the survivors, the service, and other funeral and memorial services.

But the obituary of Mpho "Sdomane" Ntloge shocked many social media users and became the talk of the town.

He was laid to rest on Saturday, 1 July.

His funeral service was held at his home in Ga-Rankuwa, Tshwane.

The 27-year-old was shot dead in Mabopane on Sunday night, 25 June.

He became popular after trending on his Instagram page in 2021 with an allegedly stolen car.

After mourners who attended his funeral posted his programme, there was an outcry on social media about his obituary.

The obituary read: "I was street-wise and loved the finer things in life (Nice things). Being happy and joyful was my motive. It was a lovely life, ke le shile mara shem, ke phetile,"

Many users criticised the way the family wrote about Sdomane.

While some felt it was too short, others felt it was taken seriously.

Kgothatso Sentsho wrote: "This is not an obituary. It's a shout-out."

Lesego Steenkamp wrote: "He was known for his criminal behaviour. They should have said that. This obituary is not nice. They wrote lies in English and Sepedi."

Kgothatso Sentsho wrote: "They should have written that he was a criminal."

Lesego Matlala wrote: "This guy wrote his obituary before he died. The family will not do that."

Meanwhile, according to Gauteng police spokeswoman Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, cops are investigating a case of murder and two counts of attempted murder following a shooting at a car wash in Mabopane on June 25.

"According to available information, police officers were on patrol in the Mabopane police district when they received a report of murder. At the scene, officers found a man with multiple gunshot wounds. Two other victims were also shot and taken to hospitals for medical assistance."
