THE wife of the former city manager will be represented by the advocate of former eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede.

Accused nine Cynthia Nzuza, who is the wife of former city manager Sipho Nzuza, was assisted by her co-accused Gumede to get representation. Gumede's advocate, Jay Naidoo, also represents five other accused in the matter.

Advocate Naidoo will represent Nzuza for the period while she is waiting for her application with Legal Aid to be finalised.

Judge Sharmaine Balton said pending the outcome of the application, advocate Naidoo will represent Nzuza until 17 October.

"Right now, we are not sure how long it will take for the outcome. So, Naidoo can represent Nzuza before the two weeks ends," she said.

She said there was no specific time when will the legal board's meeting will take place.

Nzuza said: "I thank Advocate Naidoo for standing in for me. I welcome that with both hands for now until 17 October, hopefully after that we will hear about my situation."

Judge Balton asked Nzuza if there were no conflicts as currently Naidoo represents accused one, two, four, six, seven and eight.

"All these clients don't see any conflicts if advocate Naidoo also represents Nzuza," she said.

Nzuza said so far she doesn't see any conflicts.

"As I have seen the documents so far, I don't think there are any conflicts," said Nzuza.

This was not the first time that Nzuza has financial issues with her representation. The matter has been postponed more than four times because of her issues with paying for representation.

However, judge Balton then adjourned the matter to Tuesday, 10 October.

Gumede and others face charges of money laundering, fraud and corruption in relation to the Durban Solid Waste (DSW) tender over R300 million.
