AN alleged notorious gangster was gunned down at a tavern in Rooiboklaagte outside Acornhoek, Mpumalanga on Wednesday, 6 December while the woman in his companion is fighting for her life in hospital after she was shot in the arm.

Police spokesman, Colonel Donald Mdhluli said the victim was with other people when a white Hyundai i10 stopped at the tavern.

"Thereafter, a man wearing a hat and a black jacket is said to have alighted from the car and reportedly went straight to where the victim was sitting and shot at him several times in the upper body as well the lower body. The victim unfortunately succumbed to the injuries while a woman was shot in the arm and taken to hospital for medical treatment. The suspect fled the scene shortly after the shooting," he said.

He said police are investigating a case of murder with an additional charge of attempted murder.

"The matter was reported to the police and a case was opened, however no one has been arrested so far," he said.

Police urged anyone with information that may help to arrest the perpetrators to call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
