NORTH WEST police have launched a manhunt following the death of a 49-year-old businessman on Wednesday morning, 23 August.

According to witnesses, the businessman was gunned down by two unknown men before they fled in a vehicle.

North West spokesman Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said according to information, the businessman had just arrived at a coffee shop in the Rustenburg Central Business District (CBD) when the suspects shot him several times, then fled the scene in a blue VW Polo.

Mokgwabone said the getaway car was found abandoned at the corner of Helen Joseph and Lourie streets.

He said investigations into the matter are underway.

"The motive of the incident is yet to be determined, and no arrest has been effected.

"The police would like to urge members of the community who are using various social media platforms to share pictures and video clips purported to be those of the suspects, to refrain from doing that as this has the potential to jeopardise the investigation," he said.

The police request anyone who may have information that can assist in the investigation to contact investigating officer Detective Sergeant Keorapetse Ramokgadi on 078 353 4321, or to call CrimeStop on 08600 10111.
