OPERATION Dudula leader Nhlanhla “Lux” Mohlauli has been found guilty of contempt of court.

The Soweto man failed to appear in the Meadowlands Magistrates Court for an alleged common assault offence he allegedly committed in 2019.

On Wednesday, 13 April, the court found him guilty of failing to appear before it on 30 September 2019.

A warrant had been issued for his arrest.

For disobeying the court order, Lux was given a warning instead of a custodial sentence.

In his defence, he told the court he did not know that there was a warrant for his arrest issued in 2019.

He was out on warning after being arrested for assault.

Last month, Lux appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrates Court on charges of malicious damage to property, theft and burglary.

The charges are in connection with an incident in which he and members of Operation Dudula allegedly ransacked Soweto resident Victor Ramerafe’s home in search of drugs.

The group suspected Ramerafe’s home was a drug den, however no drugs were found during the search.

He was released on R1 500 bail.

As part of his bail conditions, Lux is not allowed to make contact with Ramerafe. He was also ordered to hand over his passport to the investigating officer.
