A MAN will spend 20 years behind bars for hijacking and kidnapping.
Letona Tselae (35) from Zola 1 in Soweto was sentenced to 15 years for hijacking and five years imprisonment for kidnapping.
He was sentenced in the Joburg Magistrates Court on Friday.
Joburg Central police spokesman Captain Xoli Mbele said the accused was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
“The accused and three of his accomplices hijacked a 35-year-old man in a white Isuzu company bakkie at Crown Mines on 19 July,” said Mbele.
“The victim was held at gunpoint and forced into the car. They instructed him to drive towards FNB Stadium, where he was transferred into a blue Hyundai sedan.”
Mbele said the gang tied up the victim and covered his face with a hat. The victim was rescued by patrolling Soweto flying squad members.
“They saw a suspicious blue Hyundai sedan parked inside a yard in Zola 1. While checking the vehicle they saw a tied-up man,” said Mbele.
He told Daily Sun the victim told police his company vehicle had been hijacked.
“The accused was arrested and the company vehicle was later recovered,” said Mbele.
