MZANSI motorists will have to pay a little extra for fuel come Wednesday, 3 April.

This after Mineral Resources and Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe announced the adjustment of fuel prices based on current local and international factors, which will be effective from Wednesday.

The petrol price is set to increase by up to 67 cents per litre. Inland diesel prices will increase by more than 3 cents, but diesel at the coast will cost about 4 cents less.

However, the low sulphur diesel used by most normal vehicles, will be cheaper by between 1 and 9 cents per litre, while retail prices for paraffin and gas will decrease by 58 cents per litre, and 19 cents per kilogram, respectively.

Daily Sun caught up with motorists to hear their views on this matter.

Thabo Modise said everything is becoming expensive, and if it's not food, then it's petrol.

"I spend a lot on petrol having to come to work daily. As a businessperson, I'll also be forced to increase my prices in order for me to make a profit," he said.

Another motorist, John Seduma, said he's worried about the looming fuel hike because as someone who transports goods for those who need help, the business will be affected.

"I'll be forced to charge extra in order to afford petrol and by doing so, my clients will not be happy with me. Life is just expensive, and we can't keep up," he said.

Nosizwe Balantjane said: "I'm extremely upset with the rising price of petrol, because our salaries are not increasing proportionally. At this rate, we can't afford to go to work and pay our basic living expenses."

Mzansi's fuel prices are adjusted monthly, informed by international and local factors. International factors include the fact that South Africa imports both crude oil and finished products at a price set at the international level, including importation costs.
