A WOMAN who allegedly killed and chopped her lover has abandoned bail.

Tatenda Mhlanga (33) from Zimbabwe and her co-accused Johannes Lebese (53) from Wattville appeared in the Benoni Magistrates Court on Monday, 20 November.

They are facing charges of murder and violating a corpse.

NPA's Lumka Mahanjana said: "It's alleged that on 11 November 2023, the two were stopped by the crime prevention wardens carrying a suitcase.

"It's alleged that the wardens asked the two to open the suitcase and they found a human head and upper body of Mhlanga's ex-boyfriend, Obert Mazadza (42), who is also a Zimbabwean national."

Lumka said after discovering the body parts, it's alleged that the wardens called cops.

"When the police arrived and were still busy on the scene, the Community Policing Forum (CPF) came and reported that they found other body parts at a nearby dumping site."

She said Lebese was arrested on the scene, and Mhlanga, who ran away while the wardens were searching for the suitcase, handed herself to the police the following day, on Sunday, 12 November.

"In court, Mhlanga abandoned her bail application, and the matter was postponed to 24 November 2023 for Lebese’s formal bail application," Lumka said.

The community of Wattville said they planned to write a petition to have Lebese released.

"Lebese is the victim of this woman. She lied to him saying that it was the cow's head in the suitcase, knowing very well it was body parts," said a resident.

"She killed this man alone and she was heard by her landlord at about 3am on 10 November washing the blankets to destroy evidence, and Lebese was not there. "

Her landlord, Cyprin Dlamini, said the woman told her she had somewhere to go to in the morning, that's why she was washing early.

According to the landlord and neighbours, on Friday morning, 10 November, she requested an Uber, and it left her near the railway line, where she pulled the suitcase to the dumping site to burn the first load of body parts.

Tatenda was caught on Saturday, 11 November, by crime wardens while she was taking the second load of body parts to the dumping site.

She allegedly asked Lebese, who was on his way to work, to help her pull the suitcase after the second Uber driver refused to give her a lift due to the foul smell coming from the suitcase.
