RESIDENTS of Silahla in Waterval Boven, Mpumalanga are tired of living in kak.

This is because sewage and storm water are spilling into their homes. They claim that the problem started more than 10 years ago, and nothing has been done by the Emakhazeni Municipality to fix the problem.

Resident Delisile Matsane alleged that several houses have been damaged as a result of the problem and countless meetings have been convened to discuss the issue, however they were fruitless.

"About four councillors have been changed, but the problem is still here. We are now tired and don't know who to report to because our municipality seems not to care about us," she said.

Delisile said that they are now worried about the health of their children as there's an unbearable smell. She said the situation worsens when it rains.

"The smell is not good for anyone. Our houses are smelly. We appeal to the municipality to fix the problem. It's been years since we have been dealing with this issue," she said.

"We are being undermined as residents. We are hoping that they will fix this before Christmas because we cannot spend another Christmas is this mess, he said.

Emakhazeni municipal manager Wonder Shabangu said the municipality experienced heavy rainfall in the past weeks. He said during site inspections, officials discovered there was a blockage in the storm water drainage, which the team was able to unblock.

"The matter was attended to by our team and resolved," he said.
