"WE didn't know that the abuse would get to a point where somebody would die."
This is according to a family member of a Mpumalanga woman who was allegedly stabbed to death by her cop husband.
She told Daily Sun after the second court appearance of Constable Lucky Maduna (34) on Wednesday, 11 October, they were still in disbelief after the incident.
Maduna, attached to the Hazyview Public Order Policing, appeared in the Barberton Magistrates Court.
He's facing charges of murder and attempted murder.
His arrest comes after he allegedly assaulted his wife, Nonkululeko Mtsweni (28), while they were attending a party at a local liquor outlet on Tuesday, 3 October.
The accused allegedly hit Nonkululeko with a beer bottle after she refused to leave with him, and upon it breaking, he allegedly fetched a bottle and repeatedly stabbed the victim in her face and head until she succumbed to her injuries.

Maduna is alleged to have also stabbed Nonkululeko's friend, who was trying to intervene.
The friend suffered injuries and is receiving medical care in hospital.
Sifiso Zulu, the deceased's uncle, told Daily Sun that there was abuse in the relationship, and the family was aware of it.
He said the couple used to argue, and elders tried to intervene.
"We understand that they used to argue a lot, and elders did call them and encouraged them to try and resolve their issues amicably. We didn't know the extent of the abuse, and we didn't know how extreme it was. We didn't know that the abuse would actually get to a point where it would lead to someone's death," he said.
Meanwhile, Magistrate Phumeza Mtuyedwa postponed the matter to Friday, 20 October, for a formal bail application.
