THREE suspects aged between 18 and 19 were arrested in Barberton shortly after a man from Eswatini was murdered.

The incident, which is suspected to have been sparked by an argument over alcohol, occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, 9 September.

According to police spokesman Colonel Donald Mdhluli, the cops and the paramedics were summoned to a scene at Kamadakwa in Barberton outside Mbombela and upon arrival, the victim was found lying in a pool of blood with multiple injuries on his upper body.

“Unfortunately, he was certified dead. Crucial items, such as broken beer bottles with some blood stains were collected at the crime scene for further investigation,” said Mdhuli.

He said a murder case was opened and police immediately began investigating, and the prompt action led to the arrest of the three suspects a few hours later.

Mdhuli said the three male suspects are expected to appear in the Barberton Magistrates Court on Monday, 11 September, facing charges of murder.

Mpumalanga police commissioner Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has commended the cops for the swift arrest of the suspects shortly after the gruesome murder.

"In our fight against crime, we continue to encounter some challenges that emanate from consumption of alcohol. We, therefore, urge members of the public to act responsibly," she said.
