MOTORISTS now have the upper hand and are urged to report corrupt Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) cops.
This after the department received various complaints of alleged extortion and corruption by the members.
"Due to the high number of complaints received from the public, the public has the right and is encouraged to request appointment certificates from members.
"The public may also take photos of the member and his or her vehicle or record the occurrence to curb this alleged unlawful act," said acting TMPD chief, Basil Nkhwashu.
Tshwane Community Safety MMC, Grandi Theunissen, said in the past year, at least 30 officers were arrested and charged with corruption. Some cases are pending, while others have already started.

According to Theunissen, the need to have motorists speak up and expose these heinous crimes is to hold those who terrorise the community they are meant to protect accountable.
"We want motorists to be vigilant. I have even been a witness in one of the cases where this has happened and I was responsible for having the person arrested and their cases are coming in next week.
"Not only are these guys charged on a criminal bases, but also on a disciplinary bases," he said.
Theunissen said they are with the Independent Police Investigative Directorate to ensure corrupt metro cops are held accountable.
