MMC for Community Safety in the City of Tshwane, Ald Grandi Theunissen has lauded the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) Cable Theft Unit for recovering more than R2 million worth of stolen cables on Wednesday, 15 November.

“Following a tipoff by a community member, the Cable Theft Unit responded to the premises in Pretoria West, where they found a truck loaded with cables. The cables were marked, indicating that they belonged to the City of Tshwane and had previously been delivered to the Soshanguve depot,” Theunissen said.

He said an incredible 1 200 metres of cable were recovered and booked in at Hercules South African Police Service (SAPS) station.

Three suspects who were found in the direct vicinity of the truck were arrested and also taken to the station for questioning and further investigation.

Had it not been for the alert community member who tipped off authorities, this valuable commodity would have been lost to the City. I, therefore, want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the community member in question, the TMPD Cable Theft Unit, and SAPS Hercules who were instrumental in this operation,” Theunissen said.
