ALLEGATIONS of unfair recruitment process have surfaced against the Moses Kotane Local Municipality.

Prospective candidates were called for interviews for the position of Community Liaison Officer (CLO), however the interview process did not see the light of day as they were interrupted by a group of unknown people.

Candidates were then informed that they would be given another interview date which they alleged, has never happened. To make matters worse, the municipality allegedly went ahead with the hiring process despite the previous candidates not being called back for an interview.

It is for this reason that the candidates alleged the municipality is using unfair means to pick their  favourite candidates.

One of the candidates, Vuyisile Dabile, said they were against unfair processes of hiring.

“We were shocked to hear that people have occupied the vacancy while we are still waiting for the new interview date.

“About nine candidates were called for the interview in February but we are still waiting for the new date. I urge the government to intervene immediately so that qualified candidates can be selected," he said.

Another candidate Dineo Diale, said they are academics and should not be taken for fools.

“We did not just apply. We are qualified for the position and feel undermined by the system. Where is our country going if the system favours others?” she asked.

Dineo said they wanted clarity and truthful answers.

Director of Cooperative Services at Moses Kotane Local Municipality, Rapula Radiokana, said the Municipality recruitment processes are followed and guided by recruitment and selection policies.

He said these are adopted by the Council and applicable regulations, including the recently adopted staffing regulations which also relates to the appointment of staff in Political Offices.

Radiokana said in all advertised vacancies, there is always a clause wherein the Municipality reserves the right to appoint or not, as guided by operational requirements.

“The municipality is in the process of responding to all the complaints relating to this matter," he said.

He further added that the municipality has always been transparent in all its processes, hence the Municipality would gladly welcome anyone who might feel aggrieved during the recruitment processes.

“Adherence to applicable legislation is instrumental towards attainment of clean audit which the municipality strives to achieve. It is against this background that we view this allegation in a serious light," he said.
