A TOTAL of 31 babies (13 girls and 18 boys) were born in the North West by 10.30am on Monday, 25 December.
At Moses Kotane Hospital, where a baby girl was born, Christmas carols were sung, and celebrations were held around the building.
New mum Puleng Lephoto (25), who gave birth to the baby girl, told Daily Sun she was happy that her daughter was finally here.
She said she had not expected to give birth on Christmas Day, but she was happy.
Ngaka Modiri Molema district has 11 babies. Dr Kenneth Kaunda has five babies, Bojanala has eight and Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati has seven babies.
Provincial health department spokesman Tebogo Lekgethwane said the first baby in the province was born at Job Shimakana Tabane Hospital. The baby boy was born at 00.15am.
"The youngest mother in the province is 15 years old and is in a stable condition. We are happy that both the mums and their babies are in good condition, and we wish them well," Lekgethwane said.
Moses Kotane Hospital acting CEO Helen Monyaka commended the hospital staff for working hard even at this time of the year. She said they were grateful to God for all He did for them.
Meanwhile in Mpumalanga the health MEC Sasekani Manzini welcomed 30 bundles of joy.
Manzini was speaking during her visit to Middelburg Hospital in Nkangala District where she commended all health workers, especially midwives in all three districts of the province for delivering a total of thirty healthy babies so far.
"We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and announce that the first Christmas baby has been born at Tonga Hospital in Nkomazi District. The female baby was born at 12.07am.
She said three babies were born at the community health clinics, while two babies were born at Mapulaneng, three at Tintswalo, three at Shongwe, three at Piet Retief and one at KwaMhlanga Hospitals - 15 boys and 14 gitsl.
