MORE than 68681 matriculants are ready to write the National Senior Certificate examinations in the 550 centres across Mpumalanga.

Mpumalanga education MEC Bonakele Majuba said this during the state of readiness on the management of the Grade 12 National Senior Certificate examination event held at Guduza Secondary School in KaBokweni on Wednesday, 11 October.

"Mpumalanga Department of Education pulled all stops to ensure the 2023 grade 12 National Senior Certificate examinations progress without glitches. These examinations will commence in full swing on Monday, 30 October, with the writing of first papers for English and First Additional Language at 9am," Majuba said.

This means there are only 18 remaining days before the start of these examinations for the class of 2023.

"These are 68681 full-time and 16767 part-time candidates who have been registered to write the National Senior Certificate examinations this year," he said.

Majuba said the candidates are registered through the South African Schools administration management system in a process which commences on 31 March.

He said these preliminary schedules are meant to help verify and authenticate the registration information.

"The 2023 Grade 12 National Senior Certificate examinations will take place in 550 centres, which are spread throughout the province. Schools with limited space will use twenty alternative venues. Thirty-eight independent schools meet the minimum requirements to be examination centres this time around. The provincial education irregularities committee has been re-constituted, and their training took place in September," Majuba added.

He said this year is expected to be the 13th year where the department runs and manages an incident-free examination.

"The department intends to ensure that all the 68 681 candidates pass at the end of these examinations. In the event, for some reason, that does not happen. The department will be satisfied to register an 83% pass rate as this will be in line with the target set in the National Development plan," he said.

Guduza Secondary School Learners Representatives Deputy President Qebile Matukane said they're ready to write the final examinations.
