THE KZN kasi of Umlazi once again woke up to more bloodshed. 

Five people were shot dead while another was injured when a shooting took place on Sunday night, 12 November, in three different homes at Uganda shacks. 

It's alleged that a man and a woman were discovered with gunshot wounds at the first home. 

Police also discovered two women and a man at a second home, and another 32-year-old man survived the attack and is recovering in hospital.

The bodies still need to be identified. 

A resident Daily Sun that following this incident, she fears for her life and that of her son.

"We're certainly not safe. Cops should patrol more often in our area. Maybe these shootings will stop," said the resident.

Another resident said it's very sad because the victims included women.

KZN Transport, Community Safety, and Liaison MEC Sipho Hlomuka said the government is concerned about increasing guns and ammunition in society. 

Hlomuka called on residents to assist cops with information that may lead to the arrests.

"We urge residents to work with law enforcement and provide intelligence information to assist with the investigation and the prosecution of perpetrators of crime," said Hlomuka.

KZN police spokesman Colonel Robert Netshiunda said they launched a manhunt for an unknown number of suspects who shot and killed five people and injured another one at three different homes at the Uganda shacks.

"When police arrived at the first house, the bodies of a 32-year-old man and a woman who was yet to be identified and believed to be in her early 30s were found with multiple gunshot wounds and were certified dead at the scene.

"At the second house, police found two bodies of women aged 30 and 38 years old, as well as a body of a 24-year-old man. All three bodies had multiple gunshot wounds and were also pronounced dead. A 32-year-old man was also shot at his house but survived the shooting with multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to hospital for immediate medical treatment," he said.

Netshiunda said the motive behind the shootings hasn't been established yet.
