RESIDENTS heard big bangs as thugs bombed a cash van.

Soon after the thugs looted, residents rushed in to pick up the left over money.

However, there were security guards who were trapped in the cash van.

As they saw the residents coming, the guards allegedly fired shots. Two people were shot - one died and one was taken to hospital.

They were searching for every little evidence that could help them nail the suspects.

The cash van owned by a security company was wrecked by explosives. Not far from the van, lay a body of a man believed to be a resident.

It's not clear if the person was trying to pick the money or going to work. The body has not yet been identified.

The money heist suspects were traveling in three cars and a BMW was found at the scene.

It is believed to have been used to ram the cash van and was burnt to the ground allegedly by suspects before fleeing in two other cars, which were later found abandoned on Limpopo Street in Chief Luthuli Kasi.

Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said police have already recovered three getaway vehicles which include a burnt-out gold BMW sedan, a silver BMW sedan and a white Audi A1.

"An undisclosed amount of money has been taken," she said.

"Anyone with information on this particular scene is urged to contact the station commander of Crystal Park, Lieutenant-Colonel Ramlal on 082 822 8315. Anonymous tip-offs can also be relayed through the CrimeStop number 08600 10111.”
