PONTSHO Mohlanka has denied being involved in the murders of two Orange Farm children – Mpho Makondo and Simphiwe Mgcina.
However, she told the South Gauteng High Court sitting in Palm Ridge on Wednesday, 3 August, that she knew something bad would happen to them.
The 31-year-old also admitted that she lied to the police and wanted to frame one of their neighbours, Muzikayise Nkosi, for the murders of two of the three children she is accused of killing.
Mohlanka allegedly escaped from a sangoma’s house when she saw the two children walk in after she was allegedly told by her boyfriend about a sacrifice that needed two kids.
She said she called the police to tell them about a crime that might happen.
Asked what she said during that phone call, Mohlanka said: “I misled the officer, told him Muzikayise kidnapped two children and they might die. I mislead the officer because I was scared as my child was with my boyfriend.”
She also told the court that her boyfriend had told her that should things not go according to plan, they must pin the crime on Muzikayise.
Under cross-examination by prosecutor Advocate Gerhard Maritz, Mohlanka said it was true that she falsely incriminated Muzikayise.
Mpho’s body was found on the street corner near Muzikayise’s house, while Simphiwe’s was found in the yard with a letter tied to his arm.
Maritz said the letter had Mohlanka’s fingerprints on it.
She said she didn’t know how her fingerprints ended up on the letter as she didn’t write it.
The trial continues on Thursday, 4 August.
