ALLEGED killer Pontsho Mohlanka revealed to the court that the deaths of the three children was because of a creature.

She said that she had to kill the kids or the creature would turn on her.

Taking the witness stand on Tuesday, 2 August in the South Gauteng High Court sitting in Palm Ridge, Ekurhuleni, she said the deaths of the three kids – Mzwandile Zitho (5), Mpho Makondo (8) and Simphiwe Mgcina (6) – were as a result of human sacrifice to feed a creature.

Before she was released from a case in connection with Mzwandile’s death in April 2020, Mohlanka said she and her boyfriend spoke a lot on the phone about muthi and Mzwandile.

“I asked him what he meant when he said his muthi is turning against him,” said Mohlanka.

“He said there was a creature in the house and it was not happy. He said it was the one that killed Mzwandile. He said if we didn’t sacrifice two more children, the creature would kill us.”

After she was provisionally released in September 2020, Mohlanka and her boyfriend decided she should visit a sangoma in Orange Farm, south of Joburg for a cleansing.

She said that the sangoma gave her muthi to drink.

“After drinking it, I was dizzy and nauseous and then the sangoma’s phone rang. After speaking for a while, she gave me the phone and the person on the line was my boyfriend. He said, ‘Pontsho, you’ll forgive me, I’ll take care of our child.’”

She said while she was there, she saw the kids coming in and they appeared to be happy.

“I was scared. I remember that my boyfriend said we should make a sacrifice of two children. The kids looked very happy when they entered the shack, while the sangoma was mixing muthi. I got up and escaped,” she said.

The trial continues on Wednesday, 3 August.
