THE International Pentecostal Holiness Church (IPHC) is building its own city.
The development will be built between Heidelberg and Nigel, Gauteng, and has been named Kanana City. The project, worth over R2,5 billion, comes after the church recently celebrated its 60th anniversary. It was founded by Comforter Frederick Modise in 1962, and building its own city has always been a dream.
On Sunday, 25 September, the church held a sod-turning ceremony to celebrate the first phase. The precinct will include a dome, health centre, commercial hub, hospitality area, shopping complex, factories for church uniforms and hotel, among other things.
Spokesman priest Vusi Ndala said the development was self-funded from donations and commercial entities, and work would be done by congregants.
“Having such qualified individuals within our congregation is testament to our self-reliance. We are an empowered group, one that can draw upon our resources and skills to build something as iconic as Kanana City,” said Ndala.
“The church, under the current tutelage of Michael Sandlana, is looking towards the next 60 years as it builds a legacy from which future congregants can benefit and thrive. By building Kanana City, Sandlana is carrying out the vision of the leaders before him. He is continuing the work of bringing us together and making us a self-reliant church,” he added.
Ndala said Sandlana recognised that his duties went beyond ministry.
The church also had plans to start a similar development in Melkbosstrand in the Western Cape.
