THE Minister of Transport Sindisiwe Chikunga has expressed condolences to the families and victims of the accident that occurred on the N4 near Middleburg, towards Pretoria. 

On Friday, 13 October, seven people died during the tragic collision involving a minibus and two vehicles.  

The minibus overturned, resulting in the loss of lives, as well as leaving one individual in critical condition and another with serious injuries. 

“The exact circumstances leading to this heartbreaking incident remain under investigation by the South African Police Service. We urge the public to allow law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough inquiry to establish the cause of this tragic event,” the minister said.

The minister said they will work on preventing such accidents. 

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims during this difficult time. The Ministry of Transport remains committed to working collaboratively with all stakeholders to enhance road safety and prevent such tragedies in the future. 

“In light of this tragic occurrence, we emphasise the importance of road safety and calls upon all road users to exercise heightened caution and adhere to traffic rules and regulations. The accident severely impacted traffic flow, and the department urges commuters to plan their journeys accordingly and follow traffic updates to minimise disruptions,” she continued.
