IN a surprising turn of events, two suspects found themselves in hot water in Seshego outside Polokwane, Limpopo on Wednesday, 11 October.
The suspects, aged 24 and 43, thought they got away with suspected stolen meat and were home free, but disaster struck.
Their luck ran out when their white sedan collided with a taxi.
Things took a wrong turn, and they were forced to stop and upon inspection, residents noticed some spots of blood on the vehicle and realised that the vehicle had two freshly slaughtered cows.
The residents immediately called the police because there is a new trend of transporting stolen livestock using sedans and SUVs as they are not easily suspected like bakkies.
“There's no way you can transport two cows with a sedan. The situation became very suspicious from the beginning and police had to intervene. I believe they could have made it to their destination had they not been involved in an accident, so their luck had run out,” said a resident (36).

The cops, along with members of the provincial stock theft unit, swiftly arrived at the scene and the two suspects were arrested for being in possession of suspected stolen slaughtered cows.
Limpopo police spokesman Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the suspects were arrested following an inspection which led to the discovery of two slaughtered cows stashed in the boot and some at the back of the vehicle.
“It's suspected that the cows were slaughtered during the night or in the early hours of the morning, and police are still busy with investigations to determine where the incident took place and where the cows were being transported to,” said Ledwaba.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Seshego Magistrates Court on Friday, 13 October to face charges of possession of suspected stolen livestock.
Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe has commended the swift arrest.
“This is a reminder of the importance of the community's role in the fight against crime,” she said.
