DETAILS surrounding the accident that claimed the life of former Joburg mayor Mpho Moerane have been sketchy since the day of the accident.
But family spokesman Mike Maile shared details Moerane had given them.
“He was conscious after the accident. He gave an account that he hit a rock, lost control of the car and it overturned,” he said.
Yesterday, several ANC leaders visited the Moerane home in Bryanston, Joburg, to convey their condolences.

Among them were Cogta MEC Lebogang Maile, Joburg Mayor Mpho Phalatse and former Ekurhuleni mayor Mzwandile Masina. Maile said: “He was one of our own. He was our brother, comrade and colleague. This is a devastating loss. It cuts deep because he was not just a comrade.
“We had so many memories together, and it’s unfortunate that he’s no more. He was a caring and humble person.”
City of Joburg council speaker Vasco Da Gama said they went to the family home to offer the family a civic funeral for Moerane due to the mayoral position he held before the current administration.
