THE newly elected KZN ANC chairman and Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs MEC Siboniso Duma has warned the public not to fall victim to the person impersonating him on social media.

Duma said he doesn’t have any social media accounts and he distanced himself from the account that uses his photos and posts updates.

The person behind the account posts fake organisational updates.

Soon after Duma was elected as the new provincial chairman, the imposter posted that he was planning a cabinet reshuffle.

Duma’s office spokesman, Malusi Mchunu, said the MEC doesn’t have social media pages.

His office will unveil his official page on Monday, 26 September.

“All posts or social media messages (inboxes and comments) before that date should be characterised as fake news by the imposter.

“The MEC only has one number used for telephone and messaging communication, and it doesn’t correspond with the imposter’s chat number,” said Mchunu.

He said people should be vigilant of the strategic attacks on leadership by fake news peddlers.

Mchunu said Duma’s new social media page will be administered by credible content managers and members of his team.

“In that light, there will be no inbox activities or personalised messages to the public.

“All messages and communication with respect to Duma will represent the person and integrity of the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs,” added Mchunu.
