HE couldn’t pay the interest on his loan, so his house was allegedly burnt down!
Monde Nkampule (59) from Khayelitsha is homeless after his house was destroyed last Monday.
He borrowed R500 from the mashonisa and paid back R700, but the problem started when she allegedly demanded another R1 620.
“I asked her what money she was talking about, and she said it was a fine for paying late,” said Monde.
“I don’t know where this amount comes from, but I don’t have that kind of money!”
He said the mashonisa came carrying an axe.
“She told me she’d circumcise me for the second time because she could tell the people who circumcised me didn’t do a good job. I went to open a case against her.”
He accused the mashonisa of burning down his house.
“After I opened a case against the mashonisa, the mother and daughter pair threatened to burn my house down.
“I think they thought I was inside. Luckily, my ancestors saved me because I was with tenants at the back.”
Monde wants the mashonisa to pay for what they did.
“I only have what I was wearing. Even my partner’s belonging were destroyed.”
Nontsikelelo Neku said: “I don’t know why they did this after Monde paid.
“They had no right to ask for more money,” she said.
She urged SunReaders to help them with anything as they were both unemployed.”
Lingelethu West cop shop spokesman Sergeant Xoliswa Nyalambisa said a case of malicious damage to property was opened and two women were arrested.
They appeared in court last week and the case was postponed to 12 July.
