MADALA Buti Sithole has been through tough times.
The 65-year-old madala has been without electricity for the past seven years due to cable theft.
Madala Buti has been living in extremely poor conditions on his own and has voiced his frustration at not being able to enjoy a normal life.
When Daily Sun visited his home, he was found preparing plastics, grass, and wood to start a fire on the floor in order to cook.
He said criminals started stealing his cables in June 2017 and later stole his electric box in 2019.
"I went to report the matter at Eskom several times. I've lost count of how many times I visited Eskom's offices.
"They called to inform me that I needed to make a payment before was reconnected, but I'm unemployed and only survive on a social grant," said madala.
He said he has chronic health concerns and is unable to clean his yard.

"I'm appealing to Eskom to assist me. I've been struggling for the past seven years. I need help. It's not right for a pensioner to live in this condition," he said.
The madala's shack is on the verge of falling apart. From the outside, the SunTeam was able to see through the cracks. His furniture is old and ragged, the floor inside the shack is not cemented. It's a matter of time before it collapsed on him.
Eskom spokeswoman Amanda Qithi told Daily Sun that a reference and meter number is required to conduct an investigation.
Qithi said without the relevant data, Eskom contacted madala Buti and encouraged him to report the meter theft to the police.
"After acquiring the case number, Eskom will register the loss and install a new meter in accordance with Eskom's procedures. Eskom will continue to communicate with the client to ensure his electricity supply is restored," she said.
