VILLAGERS and motorists no longer feel safe.

This is because of an electricity pole that is leaning into a road at Marotholong section in of Ga-Sekgopo Village outside Modjadjiskloof, Limpopo. The pole might fall at any time.

The villagers fear that the pole poses a danger to their lives and vehicles. They said it's next to a busy road that is used by many people every day.

Villagers said they've been complaining about pole to the Greater Letaba Municipality and Eskom since November 2023, but nothing happened.

Community leader Timothy Maluleke said it seems the people responsible for the pole are waiting for it to fall and hurt someone before they can act.

"The pole is no longer safe as it can collapse. Government officials use the road every day, but they aren't doing anything about it. We are always scared when we pass the pylon because we don’t know what will happen. We can't eep risking our lives like this," he said.

The villagers told Daily Sun that they don't know what to do anymore.

Villager Johannes Matlou (41) said: "All we are waiting for is for it to collapse and hurt someone. If that happens, we will blame either the municipality or Eskom. Someone will have to take responsibility because we've been complaining about it for far too long."

The residents want the municipality or Eskom to either fix or remove the pole before it hurts anyone.

Greater Letaba municipal spokeswoman Lovers Mainetje said: "This is not a municipal matter, and we can't touch Eskom's infrastructure."

Eskom spokeswoman Matshidiso Phaladi said they're aware of the matter.

"It appears that a member of the public damaged the wire supporting the pole. The scope of work has been consolidated and we know what is required to rectify the fault," she said.

Phaladi said a team of technicians has been assembled to take care of the pole.
