COMMUNITY members are desperate to own their houses and become vulnerable to scammers.
Several community members within the Polokwane Municipality in Limpopo fell victim to RDP house scammers, losing their hard-earned cash.
The residents have been scammed into paying money so they could get their RDP houses and stands.
The municipality has already received several complaints from residents who deposited money to scammers with a promise that they'd receive RDP houses and stands.
Mayor John Mpe has reiterated that no RDP house is for sale at the municipality.
Mpe warned the public to be careful of individuals who reportedly claim to be municipal officials and assist residents with RDP houses.

“We wish to put it on record that there's no cash payment required from applicants to get low-cost housing or RDP housing approval. Beneficiaries or clients are advised to visit the municipal offices should they have any queries related to human settlement or housing,” he said.
Mpe said individuals and social media accounts requesting residents to buy RDP houses or municipal stands should be reported to law enforcement agencies.
Resident Edward Morifi (40) said most councillors and municipal officials have been selling RDP houses for many years.
“People don’t have houses today because of corruption in most municipalities. They would tell you that your house is out, and the next thing you find out that it has been occupied by someone you don’t know,” he said.
Other residents in Seshego outside Polokwane told Daily Sun that they applied for RDP houses in 2011.
“To date, I haven’t received my house. Some of those who applied before me are living in RDP houses. There's corruption that needs to be investigated,” said a 34-year-old woman.
