According to Vhembe police spokesman Sergeant Vuledzani Dathi, the couple was asleep when the woman's cellphone rang, and she answered it.
"After that call, her boyfriend started to accuse her of having an affair, and a heated argument ensued between them. That's when the suspect took a panga and chopped her all over her body, and she died instantly," Dathi said.
He said after the attack, the suspect went to a separate room where the woman's relatives were sleeping and informed them.
"It is said that he told them that he killed her, after which he disappeared. A search for the suspect commenced, and he was later arrested while still roaming the streets of the said village," said Dathi.
The suspect is scheduled to appear before the local magistrates court soon. Daily Sun contacted the woman's family, who refused to comment. They said the matter was being dealt with by the police and the family.
