A HORRIBLE smell has led to the gruesome discovery of the bodies of a couple and a suicide note.

The stench was too much to endure for villagers of Dihlabaneng Village in Ga-Marishane outside Burgersfort, Limpopo who were forced to call police on Wednesday, 14 February.

When cops arrived at the house the doors were locked and when they knocked, there wasn't an answer.

They had to force entry and that's when they found a man (38) hanging from the roof with a rope, in an advance state of decomposition.

Police made the discovery of bodies of a couple at this home.

"During the search on the evening of Thursday, 15 February, police noticed a shallow grave close to the house that was filled with firewood," he said.

Ledwaba said they dug the grave and discovered the body of the partner (34) wrapped in blankets in an advanced state of decomposition.

"A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of the deaths while police investigations continue," he said.

A villager who spoke to Daily Sun said they don't know what could have led to this incident.

"We thought they were happy, but clearly we were wrong," said the villager.

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe condemned the incidents, calling upon couples having domestic-related problems to seek for help from relevant professionals to avoid unnecessary loss of life.

The SunTeam could not reach the families of the couple by the time of publishing.
