A 27-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested at his hideout after he allegedly stabbed his 19-year-old girlfriend to death.
The suspect was arrested in Mahwelereng zone 17 outside Mokopane in Limpopo on Tuesday, 19 September, by members of the Thohoyandou task team following a tip-off.
This comes after police received a complaint on Sunday, 3 September, around 10 pm about a female victim who was stabbed in Ha-Magidi Village outside Thohoyandou and immediately rushed to the scene.
Upon arrival, police found members of Emergency Medical Services (EM) busy attending to the victim who later succumbed to her injuries on the scene.
Limpopo police spokesman Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was walking when she met her boyfriend.
“After a few minutes, a community member heard the girlfriend screaming for help after being stabbed with a sharp object, allegedly by the boyfriend who fled the scene on foot,” he said.

A week after the incident happened, a male person was found dead, and an ID book of the 27-year-old wanted suspect was found next to the deceased.
Ledwaba said this gave the impression that it was the deceased one but as investigations continued, it transpired that the deceased had his own ID in his pockets.
“Through further extensive investigations, police found out that the unknown body was not of the suspect and as such, they continued to trace him until his arrest in Mahwelereng,” said Ledwaba.
He said the couple had two kids and the motive of the incident is unknown at this stage, but domestic violence cannot be ruled out.
"The suspect is expected to appear before the Thohoyandou Magistrates Court soon, facing charges of murder and police investigations are continuing,” Ledwaba said.
Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe said criminals will be nabbed, prosecuted and incarcerated for the evil crimes they commit in the society.
"I can assure criminals that the long arm of the law will never fail. It will follow and catch up with you, no matter how long it takes and how far they go," said Hadebe.
