GENDER-BASED violence remains one of Mzansi's social ills and the police are working hard to fight it.
The police in Northam, Limpopo nabbed a 29-year-old suspect for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl on Saturday, 27 January.
According to Limpopo police spokesman, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the girl was with her boyfriend, two friends and a couple at a tavern in Northam on Friday night, 26 January.
“It is alleged that the victim and her friends left the tavern for Northam Block 7. They went to one of the friend's houses and slept in the same room, four of them, a couple on the bed and the victim with her boyfriend on the floor,” he said.
He said the victim's boyfriend allegedly woke up early in the morning and left her sleeping.

“The victim alleged that she was surprised in the morning of Saturday, 27 January to find that another man had slept with her. He was naked and she was also naked and felt like she had sexual intercourse without consent,” he said.
He said a case of rape was reported at Northam Police Station and was later transferred to Thabazimbi Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit for investigation. The suspect was arrested on Saturday, 27 January.
In a separate incident, Ledwaba said a three-year-old girl was allegedly raped by an unknown suspect at Gabaza Village outside Tzaneen, Limpopo.
“The complainant alleged that on Friday, 26 January she left the victim home alone and when she came back to bath her, the victim complained about pain on her genitals. It is alleged that when the complainant checked the victim's genitals, she saw blood stains and some fluid like substance,” he said.
He said the victim was taken to the nearby hospital for medical examination and the results came back positive that there was penetration.
“The case was reported at Maake Police Station and transferred to Tzaneen Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit for further investigations,” he said.
Ledwaba said police in Tzaneen FCS have launched a manhunt for an unknown male suspect.
Acting Limpopo Police Commissioner, Major General Jan Scheepers said: "Parents and guardians are continuously urged to take extra care for their children to curb the scourge of sexual related offences especially against children."
