TWO families from Mavandla and Xitlhelani villages in Limpopo have bid farewell to their leaky mkhukhu and mud houses.
The families welcomed their newly built, fully furnished houses on Thursday, 17 August.
The houses were handed over by the Limpopo Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements, and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA) MEC Basikopo Makamu, who was accompanied by Collins Chabane Mayor Shadrack Maluleke.
The families are among the 428 municipality beneficiaries receiving proper housing this financial year as part of COGHSTA's plan to provide housing to the needy.
One of the house beneficiaries, Wisdom Munyai (28), whose parents died a long time ago, told Daily Sun that he is happy that he finally received a house.
"I am at a loss for words to express my happiness because living with children inside a leaking shack was tough, especially during the rainy season.
"I hope they help other residents who, like us, are living in destitute conditions," said Munyai.

Another beneficiary, gogo Sabina Tembe (67), who has been living in a mud house for many years, said that she and her husband felt like they had entered heaven when they stepped into their new house.
"I am so excited because my husband and I have endured a great deal living in a mud house for years.
"We are grateful that God has sent us a Good Samaritan, as our new house is fully equipped with comforts, including beds and couches," said Tembe.
MEC Makamu said the housing donation aligns with the recognition of Women's Month.
"Our department is renowned for excelling in the national government's mandate to create opportunities for our female contractors to thrive in an industry previously dominated by men," said Makamu.
