COPS have intercepted a Toyota Hilux bakkie carrying dagga worth R3,5 million.
The biggest drug bust was made during a routine roadblock along the R37 road outside Burgersfort in Limpopo on Friday, 12 April. It was a joint operation with members of the local farm watch.
The vehicle was reportedly travelling from Lydenburg, Mpumalanga, to deliver the dagga in Burgersfort when it was stopped.
The driver sped off, and police gave chase. Realising he was cornered, he abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
Limpopo police spokesman, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said upon further investigation, it was revealed that the vehicle carried 13 bales and 46 sealed plastic bags of dagga, weighing about 711kg.
