"I am asking myself what is next."
These were the words of Lekwa Local Municipality speaker in Mpumalanga, Oliver Phiri, after he was allegedly attacked by three unknown people at his place in the early hours of Tuesday morning, 20 February.
Phiri told Daily Sun that his attackers assaulted him and further threatened him to stop interfering in the municipal manager's alleged corruption scandal.
According to Phiri, he started getting death threats three weeks ago when he noticed that he was being followed by a suspicious car.
He claims that he reported the issue to the police before relocating.
"A few days later I received a letter placed on the windscreen of my car. It was written: 'Till we meet again to next world you dog," he said.

Phiri said he believes that this might be politically connected as he is always vocal about the corruption in the municipality.
"I think the motive is behind the items we discussed at the council meeting. One of them is the issue of the municipal manager. I once wrote a letter to the mayor addressing this issue but it was not entertained," he said.
The speaker said he has since relocated from the area as he fears for his life.
"I don't feel safe anymore. I have since relocated to another province. Just when I got back to attend a council meeting, I get attacked. It's clear that these people want me dead and I don't know what is next for me," he said.
Lulama Njenge, who is the municipality spokesman said the corruption allegations issue was discussed on Tuesday, 20 February, at a special council meeting.
Meanwhile, police spokesman Colonel Donald Mdluli said currently there is no case opened regarding the attack on Phiri.
