VILLAGERS in Mtubatuba, north of KZN, believe the proposed construction of a dam will solve their long-standing water issues.
They were happy the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Senzo Mchunu, came to meet with them to discuss interventions.
Mchunu, who visited Mtubatuba last year, returned on Tuesday, 6 February, with all the water stakeholders and relevant departments to attend a meeting with the villagers to outline the construction of the dam plan.
The villagers and amakhosi welcomed the proposed plan.
Inkosi Ntokozo Mkhwanazi said no one should stop the development of the dam.
“We welcome you and are pleased that when our people cry for help, they listen. I believe this project will make a big difference in our villages,” said Mkhwanazi.

A villager, Nkosinathi Dlamini, said they have a serious problem, and need an immediate solution.
“We need water. We can’t keep living like this,” he said.
Another villager, Mandla Sibiya, said they welcome the proposed dam, but wish they were given time to also make contributions.
Mtubatuba Municipality Mayor, Mxolisi Mthethwa, thanked Minister Mchunu for ensuring that people have access to clean water.
Umkhanyakude District Mayor, Sphile Mdaka, acknowledged the challenge with Mtubatuba's infrastructure, but said they are working tirelessly to the solve problems.
“We are happy with the progress we make in developing the infrastructure and the dam will assist in the interventions that are already in place,” he said.
Mchunu said he is glad that villagers have welcomed the proposal.
