IZINYOKA connections have claimed he life of a four-year-old little girl in KZN.

Little Fazira Aina from Canelands in Verulam, north of Durban touched the illegally connected electricity and was electrocuted. 

She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead on arrival. 

It's alleged that on Monday, Fazira had lunch at her uncle’s house in Canelands where she also lived nearby with her family. 

A relative said her uncle was locking up his house and was about to escort the little girl home after they had lunch together. 

"While Fazira was waiting for her uncle to lock the house, she held onto an illegal electricity connection running along the fence," said the relative. 

She said the uncle managed to break the connection and transported her to the hospital.

"This is a very traumatic incident and the whole family is deeply hurt. They don't want to talk about this. They are still in shock," she said.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) spokesman, Prem Balram, said residents from the area contacted them at about 1.15pm. 

Reaction Officers & RUSA Medics were immediately sent and on arrival were informed that the child was taken to Osindisweni Hospital. 

"RUSA Members made contact with the Aina family, who confirmed that she was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital," he said. 

KZN police spokesman Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed the incident. He said Verulam cops have opened an inquest docket after a girl (4) was allegedly electrocuted on 17 July at Canelands in Verulam.

Circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated.
