THE ANC’S Moloto Tambane Branch in ward 14 in Soweto held a women’s month programme at the Protea South Multi-purpose Hall in Protea South, Soweto, on Saturday, 13 August.

The branch announced that it backs Minister of Human Settlements Mmamoloko Kubayi for the deputy president position in the December conference. Kubayi, who was the keynote speaker on Saturday, is a member in standing in the ward.

Ward secretary Esther Maema said: “The branch wants Kubayi as the party’s number two. The branch has thus resolved to raise your name.”

Kubayi said she stood on the shoulders of giants such as Winnie Madikizela-Mandela and Charlotte Maxeke.

“By the way, I must say someone said to me, ‘you are brave to be raising your hand and accepting this because many people are afraid’.

“It’s scary, I must say honestly. We will be breaking barriers if it happens. For me it is not about me only, it’s about us breaking the ceiling in the ANC and making history. This year must be a turning point for women leadership in this country,” she said.
