KING Misuzulu will not attend an event to commemorate King Dinuzulu.

Zulu Monarch Traditional Prime Minister, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi made the announcement on Wednesday, 6 March that the king won't attend the 110th anniversary of King Dinuzulu, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday, 10 March.

In a statement, Buthelezi said the king instructed him to convey the message that he would not attend the event.

"His Majesty won't be represented by any delegation from the royal family. While His Majesty appreciates government’s efforts to honour King Dinuzulu, it is imperative that the dates and venues for such important royal events be approved by His Majesty the King before being publicised," said Buthelezi.

In 1890, King Dinuzulu was captured by the British and exiled to the island of Saint Helena for seven years for leading a Zulu army against the British.

He returned to Zululand in 1897, but in 1906 the so-called Bambatha rebellion broke out and he was accused of giving orders to start the rebellion and was put on trial for treason.

King Dinuzulu protested his innocence but was found guilty and sentenced to four years imprisonment in March 1908.
