GROWING up, Zodwa Mathibela dreamt of being a social worker.
But her dream was shattered when she became blind in 2007.
In 2012, Zodwa revived her dream of helping the needy and started Mpumelelo Children’s Home, which she runs from her home.
On Saturday, 1 October she handed over food parcels to 29 needy families.
She said she always goes around asking for donations from kind people.
The 49-year-old from Zakheni Village near KwaMhlanga, Mpumalanga, told Daily Sun she loves to help needy people.
Zodwa said it fulfils her dream of becoming a social worker.
“I always love to help needy people. I didn’t want to use my blindness as an excuse not to fulfil my dream as a social worker. The food parcels I handed over on Saturday were donated by a local business. I managed to feed many families. Everyday, I work hard to make sure I get food or clothes donations.
“My heart becomes happy when I help disadvantaged people in the community. I started helping the needy at a young age,” she said.
Zodwa told the People’s Pap[er she also helps schoolkids with homework.
“Needy schoolkids come to my house to do their school work. I also give them food to eat. They come from Monday to Friday,” she said.
