KEVIN Shingange's family is still struggling to deal with his death.
The 35-year-old was stabbed to death by a suspect who was allegedly high on drugs at a tavern in Nkowankowa, Limpopo on 7 December 2023.
The suspect, Kenos Mashengete (32), who has since been arrested, was vandalising property at the tavern and attacking patrons when he allegedly stabbed Kevin.
Kevin's sister, Elizabeth, said they are traumatised and struggling to cope as they never received counselling even after they requested it.
"We requested counselling and were told that social workers were on leave. I'm depressed and need help. I saw my younger brother's body in the mortuary and saw the wounds. Not even an animal deserves to be killed like that," she said.
She said that social workers came her home but allegedly stayed for less than an hour and never came back.
"As a family, we request the Department of Social Development to assist us with professional counselling as we're still traumatised," she said.
Elizabeth said they are calling for the courts to speed up the case so they could get closure. This is because they have to relive the tragic scene and every last painful moment of Kevin's death.
"The suspect must rot in jail for my brother's death. This won't bring back Kevin, but seeing the suspect around and having fun will kill the family," she said.

She said they are also calling for intensive investigations upon every cop who was at the scene as Kevin was allegedly killed in their presence, but they failed to protect his life.
"We were informed that they were just standing and watching as if it was a Hollywood movie. My brother would still be alive if the police did their job," she said.
Limpopo police spokesman Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said cops arrested a murder suspect, Kenos Mashengete, at the scene and he appeared before the Nkowankowa Magistrates Court.
He appeared on Tuesday, 16 January, and the case was postponed to Tuesday, 23 January, for judgment.
Social development spokesman Joshua Kwapa denied the claims that the family didn't receive counselling.
"Our social worker, accompanied by supervisors, visited the family on 11 December 2023. Our social workers are ready to provide psychosocial support to the affected family members," he said.
