ROOI Nobatana, who is nicknamed Malema for his love of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), has opened a funeral service in his kasi.

The 43-year-old from Isiqalo squatter camp can always be seen wearing EFF regalia and his shack is painted red.

“Nobody calls him Rooi.We call him Malema. If you say Rooi, nobody knows him by that name in this kasi. The man is red inside and outside. He loves his party,” said resident Mncedisi Ntwanambi (46).

Rooi told Daily Sun he opened his business last month to help residents who’ve lost their loved ones.

“I opened this business to serve the people. I know there are a lot of people who provide funeral services, but I’m chipping in with a different soft touch. I will ensure my grieving clients get comfort,” he said.

He said he knew the struggle people go through in the kasi when they lose a loved one who doesn’t have a funeral policy or burial society membership.

“I will negotiate and ensure that the little money in their pockets will bury their loved ones in a dignified manner,” he said.

Rooi said he would not turn his back on politics to focus on the new business, but will do everything to ensure that the presence of the EFF is felt in the area.

“We’re now running a soup kitchen to feed the hungry. People must always see that EFF is there for them. People are hungry and we are there for them with the little we have.”
