JOBURG Emergency Management Services (EMS) urges residents to be careful when using fireworks and to ensure that they are not given to young children.
The City of Joburg has asked residents to take care of themselves and their surroundings when setting off fireworks this festive season, especially on New Year's Eve.
Residents are encouraged to visit areas where fireworks are being set off rather than setting them off themselves.
EMS spokesman Robert Mulaudzi said Joburg residents are preparing to end 2023 with a bang.
"Joburg EMS would like to warn residents to use fireworks with caution as accidents happen every year where children, adults and animals are injured when fireworks are misused and abused."

He said that young children should not set off fireworks.
"City of Joburg EMS/JMPD will continue to conduct checks throughout the City of Joburg to ensure that all wholesalers, distributors and retailers are compliant. Those who don't comply with the city’s fire safety regulations will be fined," he said.
Residents are urged to celebrate the New Year safely.
In the event of an emergency, residents should call 011 375 5911.
