WHILE patrolling in Mofolo, Soweto on Wednesday, 27 December, officers from the Joburg Metropolitan Police Department's (JMPD) tactical response unit arrested a wanted suspect.
The suspect was wanted in connection with an assault case.
The team was stopped by a resident who informed them of an alleged wanted suspect who was hiding at his place of residence in Mofolo North.
JMPD spokesman Superintendent Xolani Fihla said the officers contacted the SAPS detective handling the case and he informed them that a warrant of arrest had been issued and the suspect, who was wanted for assault GBH as per the Moroka SAPS case, had been evading the police for months.
“The officers proceeded to the given location where they found the wanted suspect. The man was informed of the warrant of arrest, and he acknowledged it and claimed that he was going to hand himself over the following day,” he said.
Fihla said the suspect was arrested and detained at Moroka cop shop where a further inquiry was conducted. The warrant of arrest was produced and read to him.
