FORMER president Jacob Zuma said children who refuse to go school must be Sjambokked.
Speaking at the Umkhonto weSizwe (MK) rally in Maqongqo near Pietermaritzburg in KZN on Sunday, 25 February, Zuma said the country can't afford to have young people loitering around.
“There will be no young men who will be idle and stay in taverns. If they continue to be drunkards while other countries educate their children, you'll see something. We'll take them to school by force and sjambok them. We'll not beg them,” he said in Zulu.
Zuma said young men drink from morning until late at night which was not good for the country.
The former president, who is the MK leader, said after finishing matric, young people will go for a compulsory call of duty.

He said people should ask themselves why Mzansi has hobos, but other countries don't.
According to Zuma, crime was caused by hunger and people are forced to do wrong things due to hunger.
“To end crime, you must end poverty,” he said.
Zuma slammed the ANC government for using the Roman Dutch law in the justice system. He said when MK takes over government, it will change the laws.
“We've never been Romans or Dutch. We must be ruled by African law."
He said many people think since the country is 30 years into democracy they have complete freedom.
Zuma told the crowd that when he was Mzansi's president he ended load shedding.
“As soon as I left, it came back. The reason for that is not electricity issues. Businesspeople wanted to end the use coal and use something else. It's them who brought back load shedding,” he said.
