Guard shot dead!

A SECURITY guard was stabbed and shot dead by three suspects, who are on the loose, in Old Coronation informal settlement near Witbank, Mpumalanga on Sunday, 21 August at about 5.30am.

Brigadier Selvy Mohlala confirmed that a 57-year-old guard and his colleague were on their way to work when they were attacked by three armed suspects at about 5.30am.

“It is alleged that one suspect was carrying a firearm and the second one was carrying a knife while the third suspect started searching the victims and took their cellphones as well as R500 cash.

“One of the guards tried to fight back, but was unfortunately shot and stabbed multiple times. Emergency services were summoned to the scene, however the victim was certified dead by the paramedics at the scene. Meanwhile, the police opened a case of robbery with an additional charge of murder,” he said.

Mpumalanga police commissioner Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Manamela has strongly condemned the senseless killing of the security guard and ordered for the swift arrest of the suspects.

She urged anyone who might have information that can assist the police in apprehending the suspects to contact Detective Lieutenant-Colonel Chris Ngwenya of Witbank police at 071 352 7585, or call CrimeStop on 08600 10111 or alternatively members of the public can send information via the MySAPS app, and all received information will be treated as confidential and callers may opt to remain anonymous.
