A CONCERNED group is calling for an end to fake marriages in Mzansi.
The group, calling themselves SA Citizens, claimed that foreign nationals are marrying South African women to obtain citizenship.
Tshidiso Motikoe, a member of SA Citizens, said they are spearheading a call by Home Affairs Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi to amend the Immigration Act to allow men from other countries to obtain citizenship through marriage.
SA Citizens members marched to the Department of Home Affairs on Friday, 19 January to submit the reviews and recommendations requested by Motsoaledi in relation to immigrants and asylum seekers.
"We find that they marry South African women to get citizenship. After that, they dump them. Marriage should not be a licence for citizenship," she said.
SA Citizens chairman Zweli Ndaba said they have decided to participate in the white paper document.
"We are concerned about immigration in South Africa and want to know what citizens think. For the first time ever, the minister has given the people the opportunity to have a say on the laws of South Africa," he said.

Ndaba said people who want to visit South Africa must come with a visa.
"Those seeking asylum or refuge must go to the refugee camps. We demand refugee camps along our borders," he said.
He said all those who came to South Africa in 1994 must return to their countries and should apply for a visa.
"Nowadays we have asylum seekers who are refugees but are visiting their countries, that means their countries are okay for them," he said.
Ndaba said those who obtained citizenship through marriage should have it revoked and cancelled.
Home Affairs communications director Paseka Mokhethea received the SA Citizens as they handed in their signatures in favour of the white paper.
Motsoaledi extended the deadline for submitting public comments on the White Paper on Citizenship, Migration and Refugee Protection until 31 January 2024
