WHEN pupils started behaving strangely, Ekurhuleni Metro cops were tipped off.

When they arrived at the school, a grade 12 pupil was allegedly found with small packets of dagga.

It's alleged the pupil told cops he was selling the zol to raise funds to buy school uniform.

Lieutenant-Colonel Kelebogile Thepa confirmed that Metro cops found nine packets of dagga, two packets of cigarettes, two packets of rolling paper, a box of matches and R69 cash on him.

"The parents of the pupil were called and he was taken to the office of the principal where he will undergo disciplinary hearing," said Thepa.

The incident happened on Monday, 24 April, at a school in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni.

This follows a search for drugs and dangerous weapons at Masisebenze and Masixakaze secondary schools, which was done in conjunction with the social crime prevention and K9 units, as well as the Tembisa cops.

"In the successful operation, 756 female and 816 male learners from both schools, as well as the classes and toilets, were searched."

Thepa said cops found 10 packets of dagga, two packets of cigarettes and two pairs of scissors lying on the school grounds at Masisebenze Secondary School, and they were confiscated.

She said all the above-confiscated items were handed to the Tembisa South police.

Steve Mabona, spokesman for the Gauteng education, said they were not aware of the incident.
