A KHAYELITSHA family is devastated after their son was allegedly stabbed to death on Saturday, 25 February.
The late Njongo Qola (16) was allegedly stabbed by a teenage girl (17) when he intervened to break up a fight.
The grade 10 pupil was with his friends at the SST area in Town 2 in Khayelitsha, when he was allegedly stabbed once in the chest.
It is alleged that four girls approached one of Njongo's friends and started insulting him before they started beating him up. When Njongo realised his friend was being attacked by the girls, he allegedly tried to break up the fight.
The girl who was among the attackers allegedly pulled a knife out of her pocket and stabbed Njongo.

Njongo's aunt, Noxolo Mangaliso, said a neighbour came to her house and told her sister that Njongo had been stabbed and was lying on the road.
When they arrived at the scene, the girls had disappeared and Njongo's two friends had run away, fearing they would be attacked.
"Our son was killed for nothing. He was trying to stop a fight but ended up losing his life. We are devastated because he was not someone who liked to fight," said Noxolo.
Noxolo said Njongo spent most of his time working at his fruit and vegetable stand.
“When he was not selling at the stand, he was studying.”
A residents told the SunTeam that the girls who allegedly killed Njongo are known troublesome girls who dropped out of school in 2022.
A pupil said: "They challenge schoolboys and make fun of them for going to school. They are real bullies."
Njongo was rushed to Khayelitsha District Hospital and later transferred to Tygerberg Hospital, where he died on 28 February.
Police spokesman Captain Frederick Van Wyk confirmed the incident.
"A 17-year-old suspect has been arrested and charged. She has appeared before the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court and the next court date is on Tuesday, 4 April," said Van Wyk.
